About

South Coast Fencing Center Programs offers Intro to Fencing, Youth Foil, Youth Epee, Intermediate Foil, Epee, Adult Foil, and foil and epee programs for competitive fencing. The Intro to Fencing program starts from the basics and includes rules, movement, attacking, defending, tactical game, warm-up, conditioning, coordination, technical work, and sparring. Youth Foil and Youth Epee focus on coordination, critical thinking, concentration, and introductory or intermediate level fencing, while the more advanced programs cover techniques, tactics, movement, and competitive fencing.

Programs

  • Intro to Fencing (12 & over) — 12 and over · Tues/Thurs 6:00-7:00 pm; Sat 10:00-11:00 am · Starting from the basics; includes rules, movement, attacking, defending, tactical game, warm-up, conditioning, coordination, technical work, and sparring.
  • Adult Foil — 18 and over · Sat 11:00 am-12:00 pm · Specifically structured for students 18 and over and covers the same material as the Introduction to Fencing program.
  • Youth Foil — 7-11 · Tues/Thurs 5:00-6:00 pm · Youth development program focusing on coordination, critical thinking, concentration, and introductory/intermediate level fencing.
  • Youth Epee — 7-11 · Thurs 6:00-7:30 pm · Youth development program focusing on coordination, critical thinking, concentration, and introductory/intermediate level fencing.
  • Intermediate Foil — Tues/Thurs 6:00-7:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00-11:00 am · More advanced techniques and tactics; strengthens and refines movement; prepares for more competitive level fencing.
  • Epee — Thurs 6:00-7:30 pm · More advanced techniques and tactics; strengthens and refines movement; prepares for more competitive level fencing.
  • Adult Foil — Saturdays 11:00 am-12:00 pm · More advanced techniques and tactics; strengthens and refines movement; prepares for more competitive level fencing.
  • Foil (12 & up) — 12 and up · M/W/F 5:00-6:30 pm or 7:00-8:30 pm · Advanced instruction for those looking to compete at the regional, national or international levels; coach approval required.
  • Foil (ages 7-11) — 7-11 · Tues/Thurs 6:00-7:30 pm · Competitive program for those looking to compete at the regional, national or international levels; coach approval required.
  • Epee (ages 7-11) — 7-11 · Thurs 6:00-7:30 pm · Competitive program for those looking to compete at the regional, national or international levels; coach approval required.

About the provider

South Coast Fencing Center Programs is a non-profit organization founded in 1999. Its mission is to provide an extraordinary training experience in a positive and focused learning environment.

Students may attend a single session in one of the offered classes. The Introduction to Fencing program is currently offered throughout the week with the option to attend multiple weekly sessions. Youth programs require the student to be ready to stay focused for the 60 minute class session. Coach approval is required for competitive programs. Students enrolled in competitive programs are expected to attend all weekly class sessions.
