More than 40 years ago, the founders of Elings Park had a vision for this site, and the park is now operated by the nonprofit Elings Park Foundation. Elings Park is not operated by the city or county and is sustained through public support, receiving no government funds for upkeep or improvements. At 230 acres, it is described as the largest community-supported non-profit public park in America and provides year-round outdoor recreation for more than 200,000 visitors annually. All dogs inside Elings Park must have an EPDOG membership.

The organization’s mission statement is that Elings Park makes Santa Barbara happier, healthier, smarter, and more inspired through recreation, the arts and nature. The leadership team includes David Velazquez, Director of Operations; Marinella Baker, Director of Development; Denise Souza, Director of Programs & Events; Justin Bart, Operations Manager; and Marni Cheverez, Administrator & Board Liaison.
