About
Camp Elings offers week-long summer camps where kids take part in Outdoor Adventure, Tennis, Mountain Bike, and BMX activities. The program also includes a Counselors-in-Training option for teens who want to be involved in camp leadership. All riders at the BMX track must have a valid USA BMX membership.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Week-long summer camps
• Price: Cost is $10 per participant for open practice every Sunday from 10 AM to 12 PM at the BMX track.
More than 40 years ago, the founders of Elings Park developed the vision that led to this program. Elings Park is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is not operated by the city or county and is sustained through public support rather than government funds for upkeep or improvements. At 230 acres, it is described as the largest community-supported non-profit public park in America and provides year-round outdoor recreation for more than 200,000 visitors annually. The organization states that its mission is to make Santa Barbara happier, healthier, smarter, and more inspired through recreation, the arts, and nature.
Camp Elings is connected with a leadership team that includes David Velazquez (Director of Operations), Marinella Baker (Director of Development), Denise Souza (Director of Programs & Events), Justin Bart (Operations Manager), and Marni Cheverez (Administrator & Board Liaison). Scholarships are available through Campership Alliance, which is sponsored by the Santa Barbara Police Activities League (PAL), a community-based collaborative that focuses on children and youth from low-income families in Goleta, Santa Barbara, and Carpinteria. Teens who participate as Counselors-in-Training can receive Community Service Hours.
