About
InterAct Theatre School offers activities that include singing, dancing, acting, original drama creation, improvisation, stagecraft, stage combat, physical theatre, audition technique, voice production, and design projects such as set and costume design. Students also have access to specialist showcase areas that include stage make-up, lighting, sound, and stunt performing. Summer Camps 2025 in Santa Barbara include opportunities for participants to immerse themselves in singing, dancing, original drama creation, and the arts of set and costume design, and every student, regardless of age, has a moment to shine on stage, with older students learning lines overnight for an audition workshop.

InterAct Theatre School offers youth theater classes for children ages 4–16 in Santa Barbara, with a blend of acting, singing, and dance in a non-competitive environment and a focus on life skills such as courage, communication, making friends, empathy, quick thinking, physical vitality, and emotional resilience. Early Actors ages 4–6 meet for 1.5-hour weekly classes during term-times on Friday afternoons from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm or Saturday mornings from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. Main School ages 6–16 meet for 3-hour weekly classes during term-times on Friday afternoons from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm or Saturday mornings from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. The Advanced Performing Arts Course for students ages 13+ meets every Friday during term-time from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm and offers a challenging and supportive environment for older students who want to grow individual creativity and confidence, including participation in different productions involving acting, singing, and dance. After-School Programs run as 2-hour sessions for students at Harding Elementary (Mondays 3:00 pm–5:00 pm, grades 2–6), Adelante Charter (Tuesdays 3:00 pm–5:00 pm, grades 2–6), McKinley Elementary (Tuesdays 3:00 pm–5:00 pm, grades 2–6), Washington Elementary (Wednesdays 1:30 pm–3:30 pm, grades 2–6), Peabody Charter (Wednesdays 3:00 pm–5:00 pm, grades 2–6), Monte Vista Elementary (Thursdays 1:30 pm–3:30 pm, grades 2–6), and Mountain View Elementary (Thursdays 2:00 pm–4:00 pm, grades 1–6), and these after-school programs culminate in a quality musical performance or performances for parents and friends. Spring Term 2026 Early Actors and Main School classes culminate in an end of term Picnic Concert, and InterAct provides theater arts training plus a full schedule of casting and rehearsals in its after-school programs.
InterAct Theatre School states that it is dedicated to developing the potential of children in an environment of safety and security, with a stated duty to protect its students and a stated priority that parents feel confident that the safety of their children is the organization’s primary concern. Teaching staff all receive full background checks. The leadership team includes Principals Eirene Maya Smith (Maya) and Natalia Emily Smith (Emily). Maya was instrumental in the setup and operation of theatre schools for children and young adults in Oxford, England, which have been running successfully since 1992, has worked with children who found fame in films such as the Harry Potter series and Transformers, and has encouraged and supported students to follow on to top drama schools in Britain and internationally, including RADA, Central School of Acting, Urdang, Italia Conti, Rose Bruford, Bird College, Juilliard, and The American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Emily was raised in England and, since the age of 4, spent her time either on or backstage, and during her training she performed in musicals such as Sweeney Todd, Les Miserables, Billy Elliot, Fame, Hairspray, We Will Rock You, and others. Emily’s professional child acting credits include Scrooge (Belinda Cratchit) – Bill Kenwright Productions; Turandot (Young Princess) – Ellen Kent Opera and Ballet International; Aida (Dancer) – Ellen Kent Opera and Ballet International; and The Wizard of Oz (Munchkin) – PeleProductions.
