About
Santa Barbara Youth Football League offers tackle football for youth players. The program is the home of the SAINTS and is part of the Gold Coast Youth Football League, which is described as “The Most Competitive League in SB.” Today, Santa Barbara Youth Football League fields between 6–8 teams in 6 divisions for youth between 6 and 14 years of age.
• Ages: 6–14 years old
In 1971, Jim Halliburton envisioned a football league that would bring the excitement and enjoyment of full contact football to the youth of Santa Barbara's south coast. In the last 50 years, some 20,000 players have played for Santa Barbara Youth Football League, competing alongside teams from El Rio, Carpinteria, the Santa Ynez Valley and Southern Santa Barbara County. The league states that it is up to everyone involved to ensure that the league continues for another 50 years as they endeavor to teach youth the values of commitment, teamwork, sportsmanship, endurance, physical conditioning, leadership and a winning spirit. Coaching experience is described as helpful but not required.
The league notes that in a world of 20 chapters, one league rises above the rest, with fierce matchups, elite talent, and no off days, and that this is where champions are forged. It also states that the league sets the standard for intensity, passion, and pure football excellence. Santa Barbara Youth Football League reports that it is waitlisting at 23 players per team, and that once a team reaches 23 players, players who are 12–14 years old as of 7/31 will need to register on the waitlist. The league also states that it will most likely have two teams for the older divisions.
Families are asked to prepare specific items after completing registration: a physical form completed and stamped, valid through November 2026; a player application filled out completely; and, for new players, a birth certificate or passport. The league specifies that families do not register for a division, because divisions are assigned based on age and league guidelines.
