Yellow Bird Music was founded in 2002 by Alex Adams, who created her own curriculum for the program in 2010 and is described as the heart and soul behind the brand, alongside her husband, Mondo. The studio is described as “a music studio where children, adults and music soar” and “a place where creativity and the joy of music come together to inspire young hearts and minds,” with classes described as playful, imaginative, and rooted in the belief that music builds confidence and joy in every child. Yellow Bird Music offers music classes and camps for kids from babies to pre-teens, as well as classes for infants, babies, toddlers, children, and adults, including Family Flock classes for all ages as multi-generational music experiences.

The program offers a diverse range of personalized private lessons for many instruments, including piano, ukulele, guitar, flute, bass, trumpet, songwriting, accordion, percussion, and voice, along with private lessons and parent and child lessons in multiple instruments and musical exploration for younger students ages 3–5 years. Musical Theater Classes for ages 4–8 and a choir for ages 5–13 are noted as coming in Fall 2026, and the Musical Theater Ensemble includes learning a musical number to debut and perform at the end of each session. The Musical Theatre Camp features Disney and Pop Hits, musical crafts, acting and movement games, instruments, and end of camp performances, and no music experience is needed for camps, only curiosity, creativity, and a love for music.

Staff at Yellow Bird Music include Alex Adams, who has a B.A. in Music and Drama from UCSB and is an active vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter, and Alexandra Ader (Aly), who graduated from UCSB in 2022 with a Bachelor’s in Communication and a Minor in Music. Gail Campanella is an experienced performer and credentialed teacher with a BA in Music and Orff-Schulwerk certification and is very active with the Music Van. Sarah Lopez studied theater, voice, and child development at Scripps College and pursued a Multiple Subject Credential and Montessori Accreditation. Mimi Chen studied piano and violin at Juilliard, performed with the Pre-College Orchestra and Children’s Choir, played concerts at Lincoln Center and Steinway Hall, attended Princeton University for undergraduate studies and earned a Master’s from Columbia University, and studied dance at the extension department at Alvin Ailey and at the Jose Limon School; she also hosts the radio show Peace Love and Saturdays, which airs Saturday mornings at KCSN in Los Angeles.

Yellow Bird Music is described as being nestled in the heart of the community, serving families in the Santa Barbara community, and as a wonderful community of families. Birthday party packages include age-appropriate musical activities and games, instrument exploration, singing and movement, and a special celebration for the birthday child, and gift cards are available that can be used toward group class sessions, private lessons, special events and camps, and birthday party bookings. The space is described as very positive and nurturing, where children can gain confidence in the beginnings of musical theater.

One parent shared, “Yellow bird has impacted so many aspects of our lives. Seeing my children’s love for music grow with them has been so wonderful. They love to sing and play instruments, and they’ve learned to take turns and help clean up. Alex has a true love for music and all the kids in her class and really makes the program so special. It’s a wonderful community of families and we have made so many wonderful friends through Yellow Bird!” — Brittney Smith.
