Camp Captivate is a program of Science Smart Kids Inc. that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M). Its programming includes summer day camps, enrichment classes, tutoring, corporate “Take your kid to work day” events, library workshops and birthday parties.

Science Smart Kids Inc. (Camp Captivate) grew from a backyard playgroup in 2008 at the home of founder Ildiko Stennis, expanded into after school science programs at school sites, and later shifted its focus to S.T.E.A.M. day camps. The company, which started in 2009, became incorporated as Science Smart Kids, Inc. in 2018 and now includes summer S.T.E.A.M. day camps, after school enrichment classes, tutoring, corporate “take your kid to work day” events, birthday parties, and nonprofit events. Camp Captivate opens registration on January 20th.
Camp Captivate’s Founder and Director is Ildiko Stennis, who is credentialed in Physical Science and Math and taught junior high and high school before starting the company. Her teaching philosophy is that kids learn best when they are engaged in hands-on investigations and are encouraged to be creative thinkers. Camp Captivate is described as the best S.T.E.A.M. summer camp in the South Bay Area, and Science Smart Kids Inc. is described as a leader in S.T.E.A.M. education in the Bay Area.
The program’s mission is to inspire students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics by fostering creativity and curiosity, with passionate and qualified educators facilitating learning environments rich in hands-on activities and interpersonal relationships. Camp Captivate and its founder have been featured in regional coverage, including Bay Area Parent’s “Summer Survival Guide 2012” and a San Jose Mercury News article titled “San Jose mom’s Science Smart Kids offers enrichment programs for young children” from May 18, 2011. Founder and Director Ildiko Stennis received recognition through the Pac-12 and CFP Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers initiative, which awarded over $36,000 to 12 teachers across the San Jose area.
