About

STEMON USA is an after-school educational program that offers hands-on S.T.E.A.M. education, including programming, robotics, and coding. Instructors work together with students as they build all of their projects from scratch, such as toys that explore balance and equilibrium and simple machines like pulleys and levers. Classes also include activities like coding their own game and working with manipulatives, with an emphasis on curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.

• Ages: 3–13 years old

STEMON USA originated from Japan and was developed in cooperation with engineers and educators at MIT. The program focuses on TRY, where students are encouraged to try something new each class; CREATE, where they express creativity through art and create their own design for every project; and LEARN, where they are exposed to concepts such as distribution of force, energy, programming, problem solving, and collaboration. The organization offers free trial lessons and works with local charter schools as a community provider, based on a belief that literacy in machine language is vital in the development of youth.

Experienced educators and franchise owners Rafael and Dorothy Javellana, together with their mentors Hideki and Hikaru Matsunaga, founded STEMON USA, and the leadership team includes Rafael Javellana, Dorothy Javellana, and Yuka Mizuma. According to the mission statement, the main goal is to spark a child's interest in science and technology and to teach skills such as autonomy, proactiveness, task-setting, problem-solving, teamwork, cooperation, and creativity.

Parent testimonials describe children developing interest in robotics and STEM, enjoying manipulatives, robotics, and coding, and showing curiosity about how things work. Parents also mention smaller class sizes, a clear and organized approach to each lesson or topic, and teachers referred to as Mrs. D, Ms. D, and Mz. Max being kind and patient with the children.
