Seven Directions Creative Learning Center states that every person has a unique vision to share that enhances the richness of the community, and that its wide range of creative learning opportunities help students realize their potential artistically, academically, and socially. The mission explains that the arts are viewed as a crucial part of the human experience and as a way for young learners to explore and express their understanding of the world, with instruction emphasizing the development of self-esteem through meaningful self-expression and valuing social emotional skills as strongly as academics. The program describes art and academics as thoughtfully melded with respect for each student’s creative spirit and celebration of their uniqueness, and notes that its name reflects recognition of seven directions: East, South, West, North, Above, Below, and Within.
The center has over 30 live exotic animals on site, includes Animal Time in nearly all camps, and uses resident animals to inspire creativity in art and science activities. It maintains extensive collections of hundreds of 3D models, including mythical creatures, animals, flowers, and sports figurines, along with a collection of well over 500 art and science books. The studio is equipped with artist-grade materials and tools such as stretched canvases, acrylic paints, mixed media, 3D printers, and iPads, and offers both full day and half day camps, as well as classes and camps for students ages 5 and up. For Digital Character Creation Camp, iPads are either provided for a materials fee or students may bring their own. Seven Directions offers financial assistance and scholarships to families experiencing financial hardship or needing help with tuition, and gift certificates are available for listed classes and camps.
Movie Nights are hosted several times a month on Saturday nights as supervised events where kids watch movies, make art, and interact with resident animals. One student testimonial from an 11-year-old named Natalie states, “I never thought I would actually love snakes!”
