About

PCPA Youth & Community Arts is part of PCPA Pacific Conservatory, which presents theatre and offers training with a resident company of theatre professionals. The program is connected to a professional conservatory theatre that has been active since the fall of 1964, with its first summer season in 1965.

PCPA Youth & Community Arts is led by Director of Youth & Community Arts Marilet Martinez and Youth & Community Arts Coordinator Jill Price. The broader organization’s leadership includes Artistic Director/Dean Mark Booher and Managing Director Jennifer Schwartz. PCPA operates as a professional conservatory theatre with a mission to reflect and transform a diverse community through live theatre, to enrich cultural literacy, to serve current and future audiences, and to train the next generation of theatre professionals, while aiming to uphold strong artistic, ethical, and professional standards. PCPA Pacific Conservatory supports a fully accredited vocational training program at Allan Hancock College for aspiring actors and theatre technicians, and it is described as the only training program in the country that combines an Equity theatre company with fully integrated community college Career and Technical Education programs. The organization acknowledges that its theatres, studios, shops, and offices are located on the ancestral home of the Chumash people, particularly the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, and states gratitude for the Chumash Tribe’s longstanding support and community leadership.
