Pepperwood Community Education

Pepperwood Community Education offers nature classes, environmental education opportunities, and hands-on workshops. The program also includes art exhibits, membership events, volunteer workdays, private guided hikes, and customized outings. Recordings of previous classes and webinars are available, and participants are asked to leave pets at home to protect wildlife.

Pepperwood’s mission states that its 3,200-acre reserve serves as a refuge for over 900 species of plants and animals, and that its team focuses on long-term ecological monitoring and generating scientific data that supports natural resource management and conservation planning in the region. The mission also states that the program offers environmental education opportunities for all ages to inspire a conservation ethic in the North Bay area. Pepperwood notes that access is available through education offerings, a membership program, community events, and volunteer opportunities, and that the reserve lies within the traditional homeland of the Wappo people. Devyn Friedfel is identified as Pepperwood’s Fire and Stewardship Manager and a California-certified Burn Boss. The program states that there is no open public access to the preserve and that a reservation is required unless attending an event that does not require reservations.
