About

The Salvation Army Double Punches Boxing Club offers structured boxing training as part of the Santa Rosa Corps' boxing program. Classes include regular boxing training sessions with a maximum training time of an hour or an hour and a half. The program runs year-round and includes more classes and training time than competitors, with mandatory classes 4 to 5 days a week for the month.

• Ages: 8–18 years old
• Schedule: Year-round program with mandatory classes 4 to 5 days a week; each class runs up to 1–1.5 hours
• Price: All memberships are a monthly payment of $90.00. A $10 late fee is applied if payment is not received between the 1st–5th of the month. Low income discount: $3.00 off with a medical card and $3.00 off with a Food Stamps card. Sibling discount: $3.00 off each sibling attending classes.

The program assesses students for class placement based on their level of knowledge in boxing and age group. It offers discounted membership fees for low income families and siblings. The club provides USA Boxing registration support, including help with profiles and registration, and requires USA Boxing members to have annual sports physicals. The program has a lost and found policy in which unclaimed items after 30 days are donated to the gym and sold off.

Students are expected to label their equipment with their name in black or silver Sharpie, and the club is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Mouthpieces that are lost are thrown away rather than placed in lost and found. Recommended equipment includes hand wraps (120 length for small hands ages 5–10 and 180 length for larger hands ages 10 and older), boxing gloves sized by weight, and a properly sized jump rope, with a basic plastic jump rope suggested for beginners. A bag to carry items and a reusable water bottle are recommended. Students may start class without all required equipment but have one week to obtain it, and the program sends a notice for failure to appear with necessary equipment.

Richard and Maria Lopez founded Double Punches Boxing Club in 1991, and the program expanded enough by 1996 to move into a small building on South Dutton Avenue in 1997. With the help of The Salvation Army, Double Punches Boxing Club moved to its current location in November 2006. Richard and Maria Lopez retired in 2022. Leadership and coaching now include boxing coach Viviana Velarde and assistant coaches Tre Terry and Azeil Pena, with mailing address contact listed as Candelario Lopez. The Salvation Army Santa Rosa Corps leadership includes Major Marcos and Captain Angel Marquez.

The mission of The Salvation Army Double Punches Boxing Club is to provide a dynamic and nurturing environment that empowers youth to channel their energy, discipline, and determination into the pursuit of a healthier and more promising future. The mission also states that by offering comprehensive boxing training and fostering a strong sense of community, the program aims to keep young individuals off the streets and equip them with skills and values for personal growth and positive engagement within their community. Double Punches Boxing Club is part of the Salvation Army Santa Rosa Corps' programs, which follow The Salvation Army mission statement as an international movement and evangelical part of the universal Christian Church, with a ministry motivated by the love of God and a mission to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
