The Junior Lifeguard Program serves ages 9 to 17 and runs for 7 weeks. Participants do Ocean Proofing, Physical Development, Lifeguard Skills, First Aid, and Competition, and the program includes field trips and a uniform. It meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and participants must pass a 100-yard swim test before registration.

- Junior Lifeguard Program — 9-17 · Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. · $700–$750 · 7-week program. Participants must pass a 100-yard swim test before registration. Age groups: AA 16-17, A 14-15, B 12-13, C 9-11.
- Junior Lifeguard Prep Class — Monday through Friday, 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. · $150 · Designed to prepare a child for the Junior Lifeguard Swim Test. There are only 36 spots available.
- Junior Lifeguard Conditioning Class — Monday through Friday, 6:15 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. · $155

Since 1985, the Seal Beach Lifeguard Department has offered the Junior Lifeguard Program. The program is described as a fun, but physically demanding, hands-on program that gives participants knowledge and appreciation for the ocean and its surrounding environment. It emphasizes safety, respect, and camaraderie.

Returning participants get priority registration. Residents receive a discount on tuition. All participants must pass a swim test prior to registering. The 100-yard swim test must be completed within 1:55 for C group, 1:45 for B group, and 1:35 for A/AA group. If enrollment reaches capacity, a wait list will be established.
