M&M Surfing School opened in 1995 and has been teaching and mentoring surf school students from around the world since then. The school offers an easy and safe way to learn to surf, with waves for every skill level, and people age 5 and up can learn the fundamentals of surfing and water safety. Surfing lessons are taught in a way that allows teaching even the youngest surfer in a safe environment, and the staff specializes in helping intermediate and advanced surfers to progress further.
The school was founded by Michael Pless, who is the founder and an owner of M&M Surfing School, and Michael Pless Jr. is also an owner. Michael Pless worked for 41 years as a respiratory therapist, is certified in advanced life support, and was part of the trauma and transport team. Michael Pless Jr. joined the Navy, specialized in the medical unit as a Corpsman, is certified in CPR, and has 30 years of experience teaching surfing.
It is Michael Pless Sr. and Michael Pless Jr.’s stated desire to pass on the sense of wonder, the joy, and some of the spiritual aspects of “the sport of Hawaiian Kings,” and M&M Surfing School was opened with the purpose of helping people learn to surf with an appreciation for the ocean. M&M Surfing School has become known worldwide, and Michael has become known as the “Saint of Seal Beach” and has been Seal Beach’s Surfing Santa since the early 90s. The school notes that everyone catches a wave, students continue to come and become part of this surfing family, and M&M Surfing School describes itself as a worldwide family of surfers. All classes are registered through the City of Seal Beach.
