About
PulseWave Percussion Drum Classes and Workshops offers drum circles, private classes, group workshops, Sacred Sound Lab, rituals, healing retreats, and interactive drum clinics. The program includes classes in conga drumming, djembe/dundun, cajon and percussion, Brazilian percussion, Cuban percussion, EmBody Rhythm, hand percussion with sticks, bells, shakers, and drums, World Music Survey, Time Counts, and Rhythm Fitness, which is described as learning rhythm while walking. Participants can also access individual and group instruction and coaching on drumset and hand drums such as conga, bongo, cajon, dumbec, djembe, framedrums, and stick drums including dun dun and timbales, along with downloadable lessons, instructional DVDs, and instructional CDs.
PulseWave Percussion Drum Classes and Workshops is led by Kim Atkinson, who has been teaching drumming since 1976. The program offers instruction and fluency on more than 30 percussion instruments and uses the PulseWave percussion method, which teaches rhythm from both micro (pulse) and macro (wave) perspectives. Workshops are tailored to suit the needs of particular audiences and locations, and the program sponsors percussion clinics all over the country and provides percussive entertainment to festivals, corporate events, and parties, as well as drum circles and rhythm-based events for businesses and family gatherings. The work has been recognized as college prep material by UC Berkeley, and offerings also include DrumDance parties and performances with various ensembles and styles, community drum circles, and rhythm-based events.
