The PEF Summer Enrichment Program offers more than 70 unique classes such as Intro to Kindergarten, Intro to First Grade, Time Traveler’s Workshop, Dance Through the Decades, Exploration of Art, Chess Club, Coding 101, STEAM 360, Wizarding World of STEAM, Kitchen Quest, Tennis Fun-damentals, Cooking, Robotics, Lab Rats, Mock Trial, musical theater, gardening, and art studio. Students can also participate in PEF Afternoon Camp and Pasadena LEARNs for additional afternoon activities. The program includes Intro Classes for TK, Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade, with Intro to TK available only for Spanish Immersion.

Elementary students attend from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and middle school students attend from 8:45 am to 12:45 pm, with afternoon care available until 5:30 pm for those enrolled in the morning component. Students in grades 2–8 choose three classes, and every student in PEF Afternoon Camp has the same class activities that include art, fitness, and discovery, led by aspiring teachers with a lead teacher available onsite. Students must stay on-site the whole time and cannot be brought back for additional programming once they leave.
Students must be a certain age by September 1 to enroll in Intro Classes: Intro to TK requires students to be 4 years old and potty-trained, Intro to Kindergarten requires students to be 5 years old, Intro to 1st Grade requires students to be 6 years old, and Intro to 2nd Grade requires students to be 7 years old, with Intro to Kindergarten and Intro to First Grade also specifying that students must be five or six years old by September 1, 2026. The PEF Summer Enrichment Program offers TK–12 students exceptional learning and service opportunities combined with summer fun, including hands-on exploration opportunities to perform, explore, create, and strategize. Students choose from 80 exceptional classes held on multiple Pasadena-area campuses, with three campuses serving 1,000 students.
More than 100 Youth Leaders from local high schools and colleges volunteer to mentor students and support teachers and staff while gaining work-related experience. For high school students, the Summer Youth Leader Program offers an opportunity to mentor TK–8 summer enrichment students and earn service hours to meet graduation requirements. PEF’s Afternoon Camp is geared toward supplementing the learning in the morning with exploratory activities in the afternoon.
The summer program, now in its 23rd year, is led by Summer Program Manager Tony Gordo. The mission of the program’s organizing foundation is “Working to achieve excellence and equity in all PUSD schools.” The program supports the public schools of Pasadena, Altadena, and Sierra Madre, and partners collaborate with PEF to provide expertise, funding, resources, and people power to help make programs and activities happen. PEF partners once again with Pasadena LEARNs to provide afternoon care to students on-site, and being a vital part of the community enables PEF to provide essential resources and enrichment opportunities to every public school student in Altadena, Pasadena, and Sierra Madre.
