About
ARTS Summer Musical Theatre Camps for Kids is an intensive “summer stock” type of theater training program where participants learn the music, book, and dance numbers for a full junior version of a Broadway musical theatre production. The program includes learning about theatre etiquette, creating a character, vocal interpretation, artistic expression, and working as a team to create a live theatrical production. At the close of the fourth week of the workshop, the junior Broadway musical is performed on stage at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center.
• Ages: 8–17 years old
• Schedule: Four-week session from June 22 to July 17, meeting Fridays from 9am to 3pm
• Price: PROGRAM FEE: $695 ($50 early enrollment discount if enrolled by June 1, 2026); All Seats: $15 (seating is festival style)
For four weeks the young actors work with three directors and staff interns under the direction of a staff of professionals. The leadership team for Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob the Musical includes Director Will Shupe, Choreographer Becky Castells, and Musical Direction by Caroline Esposito and Will Palo, including 3–6 qualified interns and assistants. The program states that enrollment is limited in order to allow one-on-one interaction and an opportunity to shine on stage, and it notes that it is a disciplined, safe and nurturing environment. Limited partial scholarships are available for single parent families or those facing financial hardship.
Since 1989, Actors’ Repertory Theatre of Simi has offered this intensive summer stock type of theater training program for young people between the ages of 8–17 years. The organization has been keeping the arts alive since 1992 and has been producing a season of live theatrical performance and culturally enriching community events since 1995. The stated mission is that every individual has the right to artistic expression and finding their own unique sense of “self” through the performing arts, and ARTS’ goal is to help nurture and guide that journey, which it states can only serve to enlighten and unify people as human beings.
