About
Roots to Branches is an outdoor program where children take part in organic gardening, care for animals, and engage in mud and water play. The program also includes hiking and observing the beautiful regions of Sonoma County as part of its activities.
Roots to Branches is described as a nature-rooted, place-based education program for young children that uses educational guides rather than “teachers” and follows a Reggio-Emilia inspired philosophy in an outdoor, natural setting. The program is an outdoor-based program for children to connect to nature, the community, and one another, and it will not be enrolling for the 2026–2027 program year. The mission of Roots to Branches states that it provides nature-rooted, place-based education for young children in Sonoma County, where children interact with the wonders of nature in the community and immerse themselves in many experiences that support the whole child. According to the mission, children develop relationships with each other, with educational guides, with the environment, and with the greater community, and they become active participants in the world around them as they discover their place in the world.
Roots to Branches was created by Amanda (she/her) and Joe (he/him), who are life partners committed to the profession of Early Childhood Education and creators of this outdoor program for young children in Sonoma County, California.
