Jiu Jitsu Kaizen offers jiu-jitsu training that includes youth classes, gi training, no gi training, and MMA training for adults. The program offers day sessions, evening sessions, and private sessions, and families can book a free, five day trial or a single free trial, as well as book private sessions. Uniform gis are provided to trial guests free of charge, and guests do not need to purchase any gear.

Jiu Jitsu Kaizen was established in 2024 and is led by Coach Edwin Co and Coach Jason Lau. The academy is dedicated to helping everyday people better themselves through jiu-jitsu training and a relentless focus on self-improvement, and is dedicated to providing the highest quality jiu-jitsu training to the San Gabriel Valley community. All levels of skill and fitness are welcome, and the program offers youth classes as well as gi, no gi and MMA training for adults.
Teaching techniques at Jiu Jitsu Kaizen are based on proven methods for faster skill development, including the Ecological, also known as Constraint Lead, Approach. Training incorporates four key principles: strong fundamentals, understanding the why, personalized development, and training safely. The culture is built on hard work not hype, humility not ego, and challenges not complacency, and every student, beginner or advanced, is considered a member of the Kaizen training family. All members, regardless of rank or age, are expected to treat others with respect and maintain a positive attitude. Kaizen is a Japanese term meaning “continuous improvement,” and at Jiu Jitsu Kaizen, the words “Enduring Advancement” are used to describe their practice of kaizen. Coach Jason places a high priority on character and value lessons in his youth classes.
Coach Edwin has been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over 22 years and is a third degree black belt under Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles Maciel. He began his training with Roger Machado in 2002, where he received his blue belt, and from 2003 to 2010 he trained only no-gi grappling with Eddie Bravo under the 10th Planet system, where Eddie Bravo promoted him to purple and brown belt. Edwin left 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu to train under Cobrinha in 2010, and while training and competing under Cobrinha, he medaled in the IBJJF Nogi World Championship as well as the Master’s World Championship tournaments. On November 14, 2015, Cobrinha awarded Edwin his black belt. Edwin worked as a sworn law enforcement officer in Los Angeles from 2015 to 2021, was POST certified as a Force Instructor with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and taught a grappling/Jiu-jitsu wellness program in his police department.
Coach Jason is a third degree black belt who has been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over 20 years and received his black belt from Roger Machado in 2014. He has trained in multiple arts such as MMA, wrestling, boxing, aikido, taekwondo and kung fu, with a focus on the functional application of the martial arts for self defense. Jason is also a practicing doctor of physical therapy who primarily treats orthopedic conditions and holds a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena.
