• Ages: 5–18 years old

Prayukti Arts was founded in 2017 by Nitya Narasimhan, who serves as the artistic director. Prayukti was created to nurture an intentional community for the arts through Indian classical dance classes, performances, and movement-based community events, with programming that focuses on both physical and mental enrichment. The program’s guiding principle is that holistic wellness and heartfelt enjoyment are key to engaging with the arts, and its programming welcomes people of all cultural, social, economic, and philosophical backgrounds to participate.

Prayukti offers Bharatanatyam classes for children and adults of all skill levels, and classes are conducted with core values in mind and are meant to cultivate a universal joy for dance and movement. The program states that it strives to build a creative space that is reliably safe and welcoming, is committed to connecting with each community member at a personal level, and holds that there is never an end to learning. Prayukti describes its approach as honoring the rich history and traditions of the past by thoughtfully bringing them into the present, and by continually asking questions rather than making objective mastery of the classical repertoire the goal.

One parent describes Nitya’s classes as offering a holistic Bharatanatyam education that includes physical strength, flexibility, cardio, choreography training, rhythm sense, creative sequences, and history and philosophy of dance, and gives a 5 out of 5 rating. Another adult student reports learning with Nitya for more than three years, highlights a focus on flexibility and strength along with the dance form, and also gives a 5 out of 5 rating. A third student notes that classes include work on movement dynamics, thalam, technique, history, strength, and flexibility, and rates the experience 5 out of 5.
