Prayukti Arts was founded in 2017 by Nitya Narasimhan, who serves as the artistic director. Nitya pursued the Post Diploma program in Movement Arts and Media from the Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, where she graduated with honors, and she also pursued Art of Teaching at the Iyengar Institute of Yoga, San Francisco. She received the Dancers Group CA$H grant in 2020 as funding toward creating new work.

Prayukti Arts offers Bharatanatyam classes for children and adults of all skill levels. Classes are conducted with core values in mind and are meant to cultivate a universal joy for dance and movement. Programming focuses on physical as well as mental enrichment and welcomes people of all cultural, social, economic, and philosophical backgrounds to participate. The guiding principle is that holistic wellness and heartfelt enjoyment are key to engaging with the arts. The program emphasizes holistic Bharatanatyam education that incorporates physical strength, flexibility, cardio, choreography training, rhythm sense, creative sequences, and history and philosophy of dance. Prayukti Arts is based in the Bay Area with a vantage point in South Asian art traditions, and its programs invite artists of diverse backgrounds and art enthusiasts from anywhere in the world to engage with and create art that interfaces thoughtfully with South Asian arts.

Prayukti was created to nurture an intentional community for the arts across the Bay Area through Indian classical dance classes and performances and movement-based community events. The Prayukti Arts community is dedicated to creating platforms where seasoned artists, rasikas, and students of art can come together and bond over a common appreciation for art.
