California Sports Center at Sunnyvale Community Center offers gymnastics classes, gymnastics camps, dance, CSC Ninja, summer camps, preschool classes, neurodivergent gymnastics classes, recreational gymnastics, competitive gymnastics, competitive dance, and birthday parties. California Sports Center at Sunnyvale Community Center teaches gymnastics to kids of all levels and ages in fun, safe, and progressive learning environments. Class participants must register directly through the City of Sunnyvale Classes & Activities web page, and some policies differ from other California Sports Center locations due to the City of Sunnyvale. The program’s recreational gymnastics introduces girls and boys to the basics in a fun, safe, and supportive environment, and it is part of one of the most successful boys gymnastics programs in the Bay Area. Girls team athletes can choose to compete in USA Gymnastics Development Program Levels 3–10 or NGA as Silver–Diamond, and boys can compete in USA Gymnastics Development Program Levels 3–10 and Future Stars, with NGA teams at the Race St. and Great Oaks locations. Neurodivergent gymnastics classes use their own curriculum and have smaller class ratios than some other classes. Team training focuses on developing life skills such as teamwork, confidence, self-control, advocating for yourself, leadership, discipline, perseverance, and healthy habits.
California Sports Center at Sunnyvale Community Center states that it believes children who are active in its fun and progressive learning environments develop into happier, healthier adults. The program teaches gymnastics classes and camps in partnership with the City of Sunnyvale. CSC was the first gymnastics club in the country to partner with Positive Coaching Alliance in 2006, and it encourages coaches to be “Double Goal” certified. It also has partnerships with Lisa Mitzel and Dr. Alison Arnold for mental training and mental health, and in 2022 it added “Zen Tiger Mind” Mental Power Stations into gyms and conducted trainings for athletes and coaches.
One parent, Monica T., shared that her daughter started gymnastics and hip-hop dance, waits the whole week for the next class, loves the lessons, and that the coaches are very good with the kids, kind, and patient. Another parent, Trulie H., described the coaching staff as incredibly knowledgeable and skilled, noted that they connect with the kids and create a supportive environment, and said their daughter has gained confidence, resilience, and a sense of pride in her accomplishments that they believe will benefit her beyond the gym.
