About

The Lockheed Martin Space High School Internship Program includes on-the-job training, mentoring and leader shadowing, professional development workshops, community service, networking events and social activities, and tours of facilities and products. High school interns spend 9 or more weeks during the summer working on projects and defense technology. The program is designed to give students interested in pursuing STEM-related careers the opportunity to work with aerospace scientists and engineers.

The program’s mission states that it is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, and mathematicians, and that its STEM outreach supports student achievement through programs, events, and scholarship. The organization reports having 60,000 engineers and scientists and states that it collaborates with educators, policymakers, and families to advance STEM education. Community involvement includes collaboration with educators, policymakers, and families to advance STEM education.

Basic qualifications for the high school internship include being at least 16 years of age at the start of the internship, being currently enrolled at a local high school, living within a commutable distance from a participating Lockheed Martin facility, and being capable of demonstrating knowledge and passion for a career in STEM. High school seniors graduating in May are not eligible for the high school internship program. For this program, the Summer 2026 internship runs June through August 2026, and Summer 2026 High School Internship Applications are currently closed. The 2027 recruiting timeline is listed as October through January, and students are directed to check back in Fall 2026 for Summer 2027 internship applications.
