About
Camp Daland includes daily swim lessons along with activities such as age-appropriate crafts, Lego creation, camp songs, camp skits, science fun, sports, strengthening exercises, play, and free play. Some sessions feature themed options where campers dress up in costume, put on mermaid tails, make pirate hats, and sail a cardboard boat. Other specialty options include a cooking class where campers use kitchen utensils, appliances, and ingredients safely while making a variety of meals, as well as Jr. Lifeguard and Advanced Camp sessions with specific aquatic and fitness components.

Camp Daland offers programs during holidays, school breaks, and all summer long, and every session of camp includes swim lessons. Specialty camps include options to learn to be a chef, get certified as a babysitter, or participate in mermaid or pirate-themed activities. The Jr. Lifeguard program includes pediatric First Aid, CPR, choking, and aquatic safety training, along with CPR, AED, and First Aid certification, plus Water Rescue and Spinal Backboard Rescue skills and tests such as a 5-minute treading water test, 10 lb. brick test, 300 yard swim test, and 1 mile run test. Advanced Camp is led by Daland’s Head Coach and is described as designed to help swimmers advance to the next level and prepare for upcoming swim meets, and requires participants to bring athletic shoes, workout clothes, bathing suit, cap, goggles, fins, snorkel, two towels, sunblock, a healthy snack, and a good lunch, as well as provide swim times for all four strokes.
Daily structure can include morning stretches, core strength work, a stretching routine, racing strategies, race time, goal setting, record keeping, running 1.5 miles per day, and over a mile of swimming every day in Advanced Camp. Camp days may also feature friendship building activities, snack time, pool fun, themed crafts, Lego creations, science fun, lunchtime, recess, pool free time, arts and crafts, shower time, and time to change clothes. Campers must remain in their car at drop-off, and sunscreen is applied multiple times during the day. The program states that it is able to accommodate children with special needs who are accompanied by an aide only, that drop-ins are welcome if space is available, that there are no refunds, switching days, or make-ups for camp, and that if enrollment minimums are not met, camp may be subject to cancellation three days prior.
Camp Daland is part of Daland Swim School, which describes itself as a premier swim school with a three-decade tradition of swim instruction excellence and was established in 1987 by Ingrid Daland. The mission statement notes a safety-first approach, ongoing in-service clinics for all staff, and a focus on addressing the specific needs of both parents and children. One parent testimonial states, “Daland Swim School is hands down the best school I have ever been a part of. My son had a fear of the water from a previous visit to the ocean. Daland knew exctactly how to work with his fears and now he is the best swimmer in his class” (Irene Crosby).
