About

American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Youth Soccer Programs offer youth soccer programs where kids play soccer. The programs are based on AYSO’s Six Philosophies: Everyone Plays®, Balanced Teams, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship, Open Registration, and Player Development. AYSO has been providing a world-class youth soccer program for more than fifty years.

• Ages: 2–18 years old

AYSO’s mission is to develop and deliver quality youth soccer programs which promote a fun, family environment based on AYSO’s Six Philosophies. AYSO brings together community members to coach, referee and support their local Regions. AYSO has the complete Player Development Pathway, which allows anyone, from toddler to adult, to those with developmental disabilities, to play. AYSO PLAY! expands the AYSO experience into new communities, and Kickstart is AYSO’s entry-level experience. AYSO partners with The Autism Community in Action (TACA) to expand inclusive soccer education nationwide, and AYSO x Sator Soccer strengthen youth soccer goal infrastructure.

The leadership team includes National Board Members Rich Pagaliarli and Gary Van Otten, Treasurer Kris Graff, and Secretary Michael Cassidy. Recognitions connected to AYSO leadership include National Management Volunteer of the Year, multiple Section and Area Management Volunteer of the Year awards, AAP Gold and Silver Area awards, RAP Bronze and Silver Region awards, AYSO Area of the Year Section 2 Area N (2018), Section 2 Area of the Year (2019), Section 2 Extraordinary Volunteer (2018), Section 2 Exceptional Volunteer of the Year (2016), Manny Hirschel Area 2N Volunteer of the Year (2014), Best EXPO Area Attendance (2016, 2017, 2020), and the 2022 Coach Spirit Award for Gary Van Otten.

Landon Donovan, a U.S. Men’s leading goal scorer and AYSO alum, has described his experiences with AYSO, including playing soccer in the backyard with Josh, seeing kids from all walks of life who wanted to be active and play soccer, and continuing to play in AYSO after starting club soccer at age 10 because he enjoyed the camaraderie and the ability to play for the love of the game.
