City of Ukiah Youth Sports Leagues offers a recreational basketball league for boys and girls in grades K–12 and a girls youth softball league for ages 3 through 8th grade. The program includes a youth basketball shoot-a-thon, youth basketball game schedules, and a girls youth softball league. The youth basketball league is recreational and non-competitive, with no league standings kept except for high school, and the girls youth softball league is recreational and non-competitive with no league standings kept.

• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: The youth basketball league runs each year from November through the middle of February, with one-hour practices on weekday evenings starting in early November and one-hour games on weekends starting in December. Officials are needed on Saturdays and Sundays from January through March.
• Price: The fee to sponsor a Youth Basketball team is $350.

The mission of the youth basketball league is to encourage participation and develop basketball skills while helping children learn to respect others, to practice sportsmanship, and to accept both winning and losing gracefully. The mission of the girls youth softball league is to encourage participation and develop softball skills while helping children learn to respect others, to practice sportsmanship, and to accept both winning and losing gracefully. All coaches are volunteers who are at least 18 years of age and must go through a background check before being selected to participate as a coach. Referees and scorekeepers must be at least 15 years of age and must complete all pre-employment testing. The Senior Sports Coordinator is Kyle Nuss, and the Senior Recreation Coordinator is Marianne Aranda.

Each youth basketball player is given a reversible team jersey with the sponsor name and number on the back, and the league provides two basketballs to each team, while players supply their own basketball attire such as shoes, socks, and shorts. Youth basketball officials, referees, and gym supervisors receive training. The Youth Basketball Shoot-A-Thon is an event where players shoot 20 free throws and collect pledges per basket or at a flat rate to raise money for the program. Low-income residents of Mendocino County may receive up to a 75% subsidy for fees depending upon income and fund availability.

For the youth basketball league, forms are distributed to schools in the Ukiah area, as well as schools in Willits, Potter Valley, and Anderson Valley. For the girls youth softball league, forms are distributed to schools in the Ukiah area, as well as schools in Willits and Potter Valley. Businesses that sponsor a youth basketball team receive acknowledgment in the City of Ukiah Winter/Spring Recreation Guide, their name on team jerseys, the team name on schedules, rosters, and league materials, and a “Thank You” team picture plaque.
