The program is part of the Vallejo City Unified Expanded Learning Programs and operates as an after school option for families. The Vallejo City Unified Expanded Learning Programs are funded by the After School Education and Safety grant and the Expanded Learning Opportunity funding from the California Department of Education. The Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD) is an independent special district and a separate government agency from the City of Vallejo. GVRD was established on July 14, 1944, and maintains over 1,000 acres of public land while offering programs that benefit over 120,000 Vallejo residents of all ages each year. GVRD manages 407 acres of public park space, including 20 neighborhood parks, 10 community parks, 6 special-purpose parks, an Olympic-size swimming pool, and 4 community centers.
