About

The MAAC Child Development Program (Head Start, Early Head Start & State Preschool) includes structured learning activities, socialization, and play. The program offers full-day and part-day options in both center-based and family child care settings, including blended Head Start and State Preschool enrollment at specific full-day sites. Infants, toddlers, and preschoolers participate in these activities in either a full-day center-based program, a family child care program, or a part-day extended center-based program.

• Ages: 0–5 years old
• Schedule: Monday–Friday contact hours 9am–5pm; options include full-day programs up to 10 hours and part-day programs up to 6.5 hours

Since 1965, MAAC has operated as a private, non-profit social service agency with a Child Development Program that includes federally funded Head Start and Early Head Start programs and California state funded preschool programs. The program serves eligible families in San Diego County with children from birth to five years old, including dual language learners, children and parents with disabilities, and families experiencing homelessness or other challenges. MAAC staff are described as responsive to each child’s and family’s unique circumstances and experiences, offering family-focused resources and support services in areas such as education, health, nutrition, mental health, and social services. The program fosters parent engagement through workshops, parent-teacher conferences, parent groups, and classroom volunteer opportunities. MAAC reports that it has provided early care and education services in North County for over forty-five years and expanded its service area in 2019 to include locations in South County, working with partners and funders to address emerging trends. Roger Cazares is listed as MAAC Executive Director from 1970 to 2004.
