About

The MAAC Child Development Program (Head Start, Early Head Start & State Preschool) offers a range of program options that deliver child and family support services. The program provides comprehensive services that include education, health, nutrition, mental health, and social services. During the 2022–2023 program year, MAAC’s Child Development Program served 1,324 children and their families across twenty locations, and it encourages parents to become invested and involved in their child’s education through workshops, parent-teacher conferences, parent groups, and classroom volunteer opportunities.

• Ages: Birth–5 years old
• Schedule: Full-day and part-day center-based and family child care options, with some programs operating up to 10 hours a day

MAAC is a private, non-profit social service agency whose Child Development Program consists of federally funded Head Start and Early Head Start programs and California state funded preschool programs. These programs serve eligible families with children from birth to five years of age, including diverse populations such as families who are dual language learners, children and parents with disabilities, and families experiencing homelessness or other challenges. The program offers blended options where qualifying families may be enrolled in both Head Start and State Preschool at specific full-day sites to enrich and extend program operating hours. Program options include a Full Day Center-Based Program for infants and toddlers from birth to 3 years up to 10 hours a day, a Full Day Family Child Care Program for infants and toddlers up to 10 hours a day, a Part Day Extended Center-Based Program for preschool children ages 3 to 5 years up to 6.5 hours a day, a Full Day Center-Based Program for preschool children up to 10 hours a day, and a Full Day Family Child Care Program for preschool children up to 10 hours a day. MAAC collaborates with partners and funders and has partner locations such as ECCDC in Escondido, MAOF – Dionicio Morales in Chula Vista, and MAOF – San Ysidro Early Learning Center in San Ysidro. MAAC has provided early care and education services to San Diego’s North County communities for over forty-five years and has been responding to community needs since 1965. MAAC’s mission states that it empowers individuals and families to build the life they want and deserve and provides a wide range of services that focus on promoting economic mobility and self-sufficiency. Roger Cazares served as MAAC Executive Director from 1970 to 2004.
