About
Education, Programs & Events includes activities such as Summer Camp, School Year Camps, Hikes, After-School Programs, Junior Zookeeper Experiences: Busy Bees Workshop, Tiny Tuesdays, Wild Explorers Preschool, Private Animal Experiences, and Scout Programs. The program is connected with Lindsay Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital, which treats native California wildlife and depends on donations to cover medical costs.
• Ages: 5–10 years old
• Schedule: Hospital patient intake hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day, with a drop-off area accepting patients from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
• Price: All services provided by the wildlife hospital are free of charge, although donations are gratefully accepted.
The mission of the organization is “Connecting people with wildlife to inspire responsibility and respect for the world we share.” Lindsay Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital is the first and among the largest wildlife rehabilitation centers in the United States and is described as a pioneer in wildlife rehabilitation. The hospital is open every day to provide free veterinary care to native California wildlife and pays 100% of the medical cost while depending on donations. It treats more than 5,500 injured and orphaned wild animals each year, with the goal of returning patients to the wild, and more than 98 percent of the animals treated are admitted due to adverse contact with human activity. Animals are brought in by the public and the county animal service agency, and care takes place both on-site and at the homes of trained volunteers. Approximately 350 volunteers donate 60,000 hours of service in the hospital each year. Before bringing an animal to the hospital, families are asked to contact the Hospital Hotline at (925) 659-8156 or email [email protected] for additional information and advice.
