The SGV-NCNW Youth Math Tutoring Program offers math tutoring for students in grades 1 through 12. The program is part of the San Gabriel Valley Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., which includes a long-running math tutoring program that has been sustained for many years and continues to remain successful.

The San Gabriel Valley Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. is a volunteer service organization whose mission is to educate, empower, and advocate for women of African descent, their families, and the communities it serves. The section was chartered on June 6, 1990, in La Puente, California, as a volunteer organization. Dr. Dorothy Shepherd is an organizer and the first President of the section. The section’s service area includes cities within the San Gabriel Valley, including but not limited to Pasadena/Altadena, Azusa, Baldwin Park, Covina, Hacienda Heights, La Puente, Rowland Heights, Valinda, West Covina, Diamond Bar, and Walnut. Community programs supported by the section include math tutoring for students in grades 1–12, Back to School backpacks and supplies for students, toiletries and warm blankets for homeless women, men, and children, baby and toddler clothing for infants, resources for families relocated to domestic violence shelters, disaster relief water for flood victims in Mississippi, mental health and wellness resources and seminars for women, assistance to grief-stricken families, and food baskets for families in need during the holidays. The organization is most proud of a membership of young people known as Young Legends, and its membership includes women, men, and children of all ages and ethnicities. SGV-NCNW is committed to being an inclusive, anti-racist organization and to leveraging its collective impact to address social inequities.
