About
City of Windsor Day Camps offers activities that include field trips, swimming, water games, and use of a facility splash pad where applicable. Junior camps go on half-day field trips once a week, youth camps go on full-day field trips once a week, youth-aged camps go swimming once a week at a City of Windsor indoor pool, and junior-aged camps participate in a water day each week. Each day includes two snack times and a scheduled lunch time.
• Ages: 4–13 years old
• Schedule: Drop-off between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., activities from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and pickup between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.; junior camps have weekly half-day field trips and youth camps have weekly full-day field trips
• Price: Lunch is provided on Fridays, including P.A. Day Camps, with two slices of cheese pizza for each child included in the Day Camp fees
Junior camp is for participants aged 4 to 5 years old, and youth camp is for participants aged 6 to 13 years old, with youth-aged camps often grouped into smaller cohorts. Participants aged 6 to 9 years old require a life jacket unless they pass a swim test facilitated by lifeguards, and participants aged 10 and up do not require a life jacket unless directed by a parent or guardian or by a lifeguard. All participants must be fully toilet-trained and day-camp-ready, including being able to take direction from staff, use the bathroom without a guardian present, interact safely, respect rules, and play without bullying or teasing.
Each of the camps is under the direction of day camp coordinators, and each day camp counsellor is certified in Standard First Aid with CPR Level C and HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development, with additional training in recreation programming, Epi-Pen use, safety and emergency procedures, group dynamics, and positive behaviour management. The City of Windsor’s Department of Recreation & Culture routinely offers daily camp for professional activity (P.A.) days, week-long holidays, March Break, and summer. ePACT is used as a secure online system to collect participant information such as age, allergies, medical conditions, emergency contact information, and approved pickup contacts.
Day Camp Mascots include Knoxie the Kangaroo, Peppy Pizza, Alli the Alligator, Gino the Gnome, Ollie the Octopus, Berry Blue Jet, and Youcan the Toucan. Participants are reminded to bring a water bottle, sunscreen or bug spray, hat and sunglasses, proper running or athletic shoes, swimsuit and towel, a backpack or bag, a change of clothes, and lunch and food for morning and afternoon snack time, and they must come with a towel and swimsuit every day.
