About
Montessori Fun Home Preschool offers hands-on learning with a Montessori curriculum where children pick their “work,” complete their activity, and then put it away. The program includes fun Spanish classes every day, with Spanish taught through song, dance, stories, and fingerplays, and children learn ABCs, numbers, and colors in both English and Spanish. Daily routines can include helping prepare for lunch, watering the garden, and doing the dishes.
• Ages: 2–5 years old
• Schedule: Open Monday–Friday 8:30 am–2:30 pm, with a 3-day option Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 8:30 am–2:30 pm
Diane Rose established Montessori Fun Home Preschool with a few Montessori activities in her living room with her own three children when they were toddlers, and she now has three grown children and two grandbabies. The program has a small mixed-age class of 12 children per day with three teachers, a low 4:1 student-teacher ratio, and the same teachers and the same children every day. The environment includes a large covered deck and a double-gated play yard, and the program follows Montessori philosophies that foster a strong sense of community and respect for self, others, and the environment, along with a “whole child” approach that supports each student’s unique qualities and individual learning style. Montessori Fun Home Preschool states that it is the perfect bridge between home and school, offers ages 2–5 full-day including PreK and TK, is now accepting applications for children ages 2 to 5 years old, and welcomes students regardless of race, gender, or national and ethnic origin, and is non-discriminatory in all policies.
Diane Rose, the director, teacher, and owner of Montessori Fun, has a California Teachers Credential with an emphasis in early childhood, Montessori Teachers Training for Primary, a BA in Psychology, and more than 30 years of experience working with preschoolers and toddlers. Kristin Ohlson is a co-teacher with Diane, has over 15 years of preschool experience and over 36 units of Early Childhood Education, and both Diane and Kristin are experienced teachers with 15-plus years working with preschoolers, are current in first aid and CPR, are vaccinated, and are also moms. Ashley Amador is the assistant teacher and classroom assistant, is a student at SRJC, and is bilingual in English and Spanish. Diane teaches Spanish as part of the daily curriculum, and Ashley’s bilingual skills support the program’s daily Spanish focus. The program operates with license # 490170838.
One parent describes Montessori Fun Home Preschool as their number one choice for preschool, noting that their oldest son attended and their 4-year-old son currently attends, and they plan to send their daughter in a few years. This parent highlights the small student-teacher ratio, the true Montessori curriculum with children choosing and putting away their work, and children helping prepare for lunch, watering the garden, and doing the dishes. Another parent notes the low student-to-teacher ratio and says the Montessori curriculum has improved their daughter’s manners, respect, and care for the environment, while she learns ABCs, numbers, and colors in English and Spanish.
