About
Cañon City Blitz Soccer offers competitive youth soccer programs that include traveling teams that compete against teams from around Colorado. The program includes specific events such as a Blitz Info Meeting & Kick-Around, the CCHS 3v3 Tournament, and the CCHS Soccer Clinic.
• Ages: 9–18 years old
Established in 1986, Cañon City Blitz Soccer operates under the Cańon City Youth Soccer Association (CCYSA), a non-profit 501(c)3 organization led by a volunteer Board of Directors. The program offers teams from Under-11 to Under-19 age groups, depending on the number of players registered, and teams compete in Colorado Soccer Association leagues governed by US Youth Soccer. Starting with the U-11 age group (9–10 year olds), traveling teams compete primarily along the Front Range of Colorado, with occasional games as far as Steamboat Springs, Colorado, or Cheyenne, Wyoming. Blitz Soccer Coaches and Team Managers are volunteers, and player registration is handled through a third-party platform called PlayMetrics.
The CCYSA describes its mission as focusing on developing well-rounded athletes who excel both on and off the field, with the belief that outstanding players become outstanding citizens. The program is described as bridging the gap between the Cañon City recreational youth soccer program and the competitive demands of high school soccer and beyond, and it is presented as Fremont County’s premier youth soccer club serving players from Cañon City, Florence, and Penrose. The Cañon City Blitz Soccer logo was redesigned in 2022 with symbolism that includes colors recalling the region’s gold mining history, concentric C’s pierced by a lightning bolt, three vertical gold stripes representing Cañon City, Florence, and Penrose, and three jagged peaks representing local hogback rock formations.
