Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Summer Camps
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, 4250 Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80906
About
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Summer Camps offer summer camp adventures where campers meet animals up-close, explore the outdoors, interact with keepers, make treats for the animals, and design cool crafts. Camp days include live animal presentations, games, Zoo hikes, time with nature, and, for some groups, a quest through or exploration of the Zoo’s exclusive 40 acre nature trail. All 2026 summer camps are sold out.
• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Full week camps for kindergarten through 8th grade are offered on weekdays in June and July, running June 1–July 31, 2026
Classic Camps for kindergarten through 3rd grade are described as a wild inquiry-based summer experience. Camp WILDER for 4th and 5th graders is described as an immersive nature-based experience, and campers in Camp WILDER quest through the Zoo’s 40 acre nature trail exclusively reserved for campers and teen program participants. Middle School Camps for 6th through 8th graders combine inquiry and nature-based experiences, and campers in these sessions explore the Zoo’s exclusive 40 acre nature trail. Summer Classic Camps and Camp WILDER state that participants should expect to get dirty and spend ample time outdoors. The minimum camper age is 5 years old, and campers should be fully potty trained. Campers are instructed to register for the grade they will enter in the fall.
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo states that its summer camp adventures share the wonders of wildlife and wild places in fun and exciting ways. The stated goal of these programs is to instill and foster a lifelong love for nature and animals, and to introduce or develop lifelong passions for activities that tie youth directly to wildlife and wild places. Through live animal presentations, games, Zoo hikes, and time with nature, camp mentors are described as helping children provide a link between people and the natural world.
In 2026, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo turns 100. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo was ranked the #2 Best Zoo in the country in USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards 2026, and was named the #2 Best Zoo in North America by USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Awards for the second year in a row. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo supports qualifying community organizations and schools each year by donating admission tickets for fundraising purposes, and its Community Access Program – Zoo for All – provides free daytime admission tickets to community nonprofits serving under-resourced populations in the Pikes Peak region.
