Camp Blue Sky Overnight Camp is a 1-week introductory resident overnight camp experience for 1st–2nd grade campers that focuses on trying new things and building independence. Instructors are all 18 and older with impeccable credentials and serious safety and skills training, and dedicated instructors lead, live, and eat with campers all week. On-site rock climbing takes place at areas called Chipmunk Mountain, Rowan’s Castle, Baklava Boulder, and Baskin Robbins, and flat-water skills are taught on Jackson Pond. The camp includes a one-night camp out in tents where campers set up the campsite and cook meals, and a low ropes Challenge Course is used to build teamwork, communication, patience, empathy, and self-confidence. Avid4 provides access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids and transportation to and from recreation areas.
The program is part of Avid4 Adventure, whose mission states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. The mission also states that Avid4 Adventure offers day camps and extended overnight options and was created to give kids a love of outdoor activity and to ensure the future caretaking of the planet. Avid4 Adventure operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service. The organization holds accreditation from the American Camp Association, has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps, and is a Certified B Corp. The Avid4 Adventure Guarantee states that the program offers an authentic outdoor adventure, well-trained professional staff, increased confidence, and a customer experience that exceeds expectations, with a free next camp if these promises are not met. Programs with Avid4 Adventure evolve for ages 3 through 17, from Pre-K through a first summer job.
The leadership team includes Founder David Secunda, who is a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Testimonials from parents in September 2023 describe children learning activities such as stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, and biking, including learning to ride a bike without training wheels, and refer to Avid’s staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with children.
