Avid4 Instructors are all 18 and older with credentials and safety and skills training, and they are the number one point of positive feedback from parents of campers. The leadership team includes Founder David Secunda, former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry, and Garrett, Camp Blue Sky Director, whose first camp experience was in 2014 and who previously served as a group counselor and Program Director for YMCA Camp Edwards and holds a B.A. in Secondary English Education from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. Avid4 Adventure states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that at Avid4 Adventure kids build confidence, make new friends, and master skills in paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking, with day camps and extended overnight options. Avid4 Adventure was founded with the stated goal of giving kids a love of outdoor activity and supporting future caretaking of the planet. The organization operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service, is accredited by the American Camp Association, is a Certified B Corp, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps.
One parent, Kate, described Camp Blue Sky as a place where her usually reserved child became more willing to try new things and called it “a magical place.” Another parent, Emily Medress, said in September 2023 that this was her daughter’s favorite camp and that during camp her daughter went from using training wheels to learning to ride a bike without them, and that stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, and biking became her favorite activities. In September 2023, Molly Marienthal said her child wanted her to come see everything learned and done each day and described Avid’s staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion, and said it is a well-run program where kids learn new outdoor skills. Also in September 2023, Suzanne Dayton said her kids had “the best time” at camp, still talked about it over a month later, wanted to return the next year, and were active every day learning how to enjoy what Colorado has to offer.
