Camp Blue Sky - 5th–6th Grade 1-Week Overnight Camp includes overnight camping, hiking, biking, climbing, paddling, rock climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, archery, and a challenge course. Campers take part in morning clubs, skits, and games, and they participate in a one-night backcountry overnight that includes pitching tents, cooking meals, and learning Leave No Trace Principles. Campers practice paddling skills at Jackson Pond for kayaking and stand up paddleboarding, spend a full day at different climbing sites, investigate plant life and local history on nearby trails, and attempt to summit the local peak, Mt. Judge.

Campers follow a daily schedule that includes an optional Morning Club between 6:45–7:30 AM, meals, a morning adventure activity from 9:00–11:45 AM, an afternoon adventure activity from 2:00–4:45 PM, evening activities such as skits and games from 6:00–7:00 PM, and lights out at 9:00 PM. Campers build strength and marksmanship skills on the on-site archery range using both recurve and compound bows and focus on teamwork at the Challenge Course with activities like traversing suspended cables with a partner, participating in trust falls, and navigating a giant spider’s web. Transportation is provided to and from recreation areas, and campers use top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids.
Campers spend a full day at different climbing sites learning from experienced lead climbing instructors, ride with an experienced mountain bike instructor on off-site rides, and are led by trained instructors during the backcountry overnight. All instructors are 18 and older with safety and skills training, and the camps are described as multi-sport adventure programs that evolve with campers from age 3 to 17. The program is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which promises an authentic outdoor adventure, well-trained professional staff, and increased confidence, with a free future camp if these promises are not met.
Garrett serves as the Camp Blue Sky Director and first worked at a summer camp in 2014 outside Milwaukee, Wisconsin, progressing from group counselor to Program Director for YMCA Camp Edwards. He earned a B.A. in Secondary English Education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, has served a program for individuals with disabilities and chronic illnesses in Texas, led an experiential education backpacking program in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, joined the leadership at Camp Blue Sky (formerly known as Mt. Evans) in 2019, and helped lead at TGHTR, a youth homeless shelter program in Boulder County.
Avid4 Adventure states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that kids build confidence, make new friends, and master skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. The organization describes its camps as giving kids a love of outdoor activity, supporting future caretaking of the planet, and offering room to grow outdoors while building skills in mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, and paddling.
