Explorer Camp Highlands Ranch includes outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, canoeing, and biking, along with yoga and storytime yoga. Campers also take part in art and music during the week. Parents and campers meet staff at a consistent location each day, and Avid4 Adventure transports campers to recreation areas for the activity on the schedule before returning to the facility for afternoon pick up.

A sample weekly schedule includes kayaking and yoga on Monday, art and on-site biking on Tuesday, biking and yoga on Wednesday, music and canoeing on Thursday, and hiking and art on Friday. Camper to staff ratio is 5:1, and campers are strongly encouraged to bring their own bike for biking day with training wheels removed before camp. Every activity starts with a discussion about risks, prevention, and response, and the program uses professional-caliber equipment for activities such as mountain biking, kayaking, and climbing.
Explorer Camp Highlands Ranch is part of Avid4 Adventure’s one-week Explorer summer camps for 5 and 6 year olds entering Kindergarten or 1st Grade, and programs evolve as campers grow from age 3 through 17. Avid4 Adventure states a mission to give kids a love of outdoor activity and to ensure the future caretaking of the planet, aiming to set kids on a trajectory of lifelong outdoor adventure and stewardship while building skills, confidence, grit, and determination. The program emphasizes teaching Leave-No-Trace principles and respect for the natural world.
Instructors are all 18 and older and are described as incredibly well-trained and professional staff with impeccable credentials and serious safety and skills training, and they are described as talented teachers who can connect with kids and encourage them to challenge themselves. Avid4 Adventure is led by founder David Secunda, a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry.
