About

Campers practice specific biking skills such as basic bike commands, bunny hops, track stands, braking, and shifting. They also learn bicycle maintenance basics, including safety checking bikes, learning to properly fit a helmet and bike, solving gear problems, and changing flat tires, along with learning trail etiquette.

The program strongly encourages campers to use their own tuned bikes that fit well and are appropriate for dirt trails, including hand brakes, gears, and wider tires, and also offers bike rentals for an additional fee. In order to register, campers must be able to bike confidently without training wheels on a dirt surface, and campers who do not meet this minimum skill requirement may be moved to a different program if space is available or removed from the group and offered a credit. Campers are grouped by grade range into 2nd–4th graders or 5th–7th graders, and transportation is provided to and from recreation areas, with access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids.

Instructors are all 18 and older, described as insatiable outdoors experts with impeccable credentials and serious safety and skills training. The leadership team includes founder David Secunda, who is a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Avid4 Adventure states a mission that kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking, and the organization operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service. Avid4 Adventure is a Certified B Corp, is accredited by the American Camp Association, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps.

The program is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which includes a promise to provide an authentic outdoor adventure, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, and increased confidence, and if these promises are not met, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free. Avid4 Adventure states that it hires committed, experienced instructors, uses professional-caliber equipment, transports campers to local recreation areas, and teaches campers solid skills including using sound judgment and problem-solving in their lives. The organization notes that its programs evolve as campers grow from age 3 to 17, that it runs summer camps, that every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved, and that it is 100% committed to paying educators a fair wage.

Parent testimonials describe this as a favorite camp where a child who previously used training wheels learned to ride without them and later continued practicing, and where staff are described as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with children. Other testimonials state that children were active every day, learned new outdoor skills, and continued talking about their experiences after camp, and that families appreciated that children were learning how to enjoy what Colorado has to offer.
