About

Guide-In-Training Expedition is a two-week program that includes backpacking, rock climbing, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, standup paddleboarding, camping, hiking, paddling, kayaking, teambuilding, and leadership activities. Campers sleep in tents throughout the duration of their trip and have no access to showers. Water is filtered from natural sources while backpacking and brought in while in other camp locations.

• Ages: 16–17 years old
• Schedule: Two-week sessions with Sunday check-in at 10:00 AM and Friday check-out at 3:00 PM
• Price: Camp length two weeks, $3,140 for 293 total camp hours; DEN Airport camp shuttle $50 one-way or $100 round-trip; backpack rental $40; Avid4 merch delivered at camp with prices varying (tax included)

During the program, campers complete a six-day backpacking trip in the mountains of Colorado and receive specialized Leave No Trace training with a certificate in the fundamentals of how to enjoy the outdoors respectfully and sustainably. They spend time at Camp Windy Peak and then a second week in Curt Gowdy State Park building technical skills in paddling, rock climbing, mountain biking, and hiking, including setting up and breaking down their own campsite, cooking on camping stoves, and maintaining their campsite. Campers teach younger campers one of the core sports, can earn community service credit if applicable, and experience a difficulty rating of 3 – Mid Level Adventure and a wilderness rating of 2 – Hybrid Camping, with a range of toilet and waste disposal setups and no showers. The program is led by licensed rafting guides and is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, with available multi-session/sibling discounts, a referral program, and a service discount for qualifying professions.

Avid4 Adventure states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that kids at Avid4 Adventure build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. The leadership team is led by David Secunda, former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry, and combines experience in youth development, outdoor education, and operations. Avid4 Adventure is accredited by the American Camp Association, named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps, and is a Certified B Corp committed to public transparency and accountability. It operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service and is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and its programs evolve as campers grow from age 3 through 17.

Parent testimonials describe Avid4 Adventure as a camp where children learned activities such as standup paddleboarding, kayaking, and biking, including learning to ride a bike without training wheels, and where staff are described as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion. Parents also report that their children were active every day, learned new outdoor skills, and continued to talk about their experiences after camp.
