Guide-In-Training Expedition includes backpacking, rock climbing, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, standup paddleboarding, camping, hiking, and structured teambuilding and leadership activities. Campers sleep in tents for the full trip, set up and break down their own campsite, make meals on camping stoves, and maintain a clean, organized campsite. The program uses hybrid camping, with backcountry wilderness camping while backpacking and improved site camping for the rest of the trip, and there is no access to showers during the session.

Guide-In-Training Expedition includes a six-day backpacking trip in the mountains of Colorado and time at Camp Windy Peak, a 225-acre wilderness area adjacent to the Colorado Trail. During the second week, the group is based in Curt Gowdy State Park in Wyoming, where they build technical skills in paddling, rock climbing, mountain biking, and hiking. Campers receive specialized Leave No Trace training with a certificate in the fundamentals and may experience pit toilets without flushing and backcountry Leave No Trace human waste disposal. Water is filtered from natural sources while backpacking and brought in at other camp locations. Campers teach younger campers one of the core sports, participate in Love & Logic lessons for camper management and leadership, and can receive community service credit on request if applicable. The program is described as providing a strong foundation for future work with kids in the outdoors, offering practical professional skills and job experience, and includes the possibility of references and job recommendations from staff. The total camp length is listed as 293 hours, with a difficulty rating of 3 – Mid Level Adventure and a wilderness rating of 2 – Hybrid Camping.
Guide-In-Training Expedition is led by licensed rafting guides, and all Avid4 Adventure instructors are 18 and older with serious safety and skills training. The leadership team includes founder David Secunda, a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Avid4 Adventure states, “We believe in the transformative power of the outdoors. At Avid4 Adventure your kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking.” The organization is a Certified B Corp, is accredited by the American Camp Association, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps. Avid4 Adventure operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service.
The program offers an Avid4 Adventure Guarantee that includes a free next camp if stated promises are not met. Families can access a multi-session/sibling discount of $75 off per session after the first, a referral program that gives friends $50 off their first camp and provides a $50 coupon for a future 2026 camp when they enroll, and a service discount of $100 off for qualifying professions.
