During the week, campers also spend time camping, cooking their own meals on camp stoves, sleeping in tents, playing games during downtime, and swapping stories around the campfire. Each day includes structured times such as morning circle, evening circle, and an evening activity.

A sample daily schedule runs from a 7:00 AM wake-up through 9:00 PM tent time/bedtime, with time set aside for meals, self and group care, two adventure blocks, hang out and bond time, and evening activities. Campers entering 5th–6th grade in the 2026–2027 school year are eligible for this expedition, which has a difficulty rating of 1 (entry level adventure) and a wilderness rating of 1 (improved site camping with basecamp tents and no running water or showers). Total camp hours are listed as 125, and transportation is provided to and from recreation areas, with access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids.

Avid4 Instructors are all 18 and older, described as insatiable outdoors experts with serious safety and skills training, and are noted by parents as the number one point of positive feedback. The leadership team includes founder David Secunda, a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. The program is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which promises an authentic outdoor adventure, well-trained professional staff, increased confidence for campers, and a customer experience that exceeds parents’ expectations, with a free next camp if these promises are not met.

Avid4 Adventure states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and aims to give kids a love of outdoor activity, support future caretaking of the planet, set kids on a trajectory of lifelong outdoor adventure and stewardship, and teach solid skills including sound judgment and problem-solving. The organization is accredited by the American Camp Association, is a Certified B Corp, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps. It operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service and notes that its summer camps are highly acclaimed and 5-star rated.

Every activity at camp starts with a discussion about risks, prevention, and response, and campers practice interpersonal skills like communication, problem solving, and teamwork throughout the week. Campers are grouped with no more than 13 per group and 2 staff members, and all water at camp is brought in filtered for drinking, hand washing, and food preparation. Campers cook their own meals on camp stoves, sleep in basecamp tents, and use portable or pit toilets without flush capabilities.

Parent testimonials describe campers learning new outdoor skills, including biking without training wheels, and continuing to talk about camp after it ends. Parents also describe the staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with children, and refer to the program as well run and active every day.
