Headfirst Summer Camps has been the trusted choice for families across Washington, DC, Bethesda, and Northern Virginia for 30 years, and The Headfirst Companies have flourished into a national organization that operates three divisions with twenty-five full-time and 700 seasonal team members. The Headfirst Companies operate Professional Camps in partnership with four Major League Baseball teams, one Major League Soccer team, and one National Football League team. The organization states, “We live to elevate our camps as a platform to teach kids about life and open up the possibilities for their future.”

In the fall of 1996, Brendan Sullivan returned to DC and with a single baseball lesson that September on the fields of St. Albans School, The Headfirst Companies were born, and the company notes ©2001–2025 Headfirst Companies LLC. Brendan Sullivan is the founder of Headfirst, returned to his native DC after the first of five professional baseball seasons, attended Stanford University, played in the San Diego Padres minor league system via the Major League Baseball draft, and is an alumnus of St. Albans School. The mission, first stated with that initial baseball lesson, is “To inspire the personal best in high potential kids.”

Parent feedback includes comments such as: “Great Counselors! Flexible to child’s needs. Carpool line for before and after care too. Flexible to change camp topics once you’ve registered. Child grew so much in skills in just 2 weeks.” Another parent shared, “The camp and counselors are phenomenal! This is our second year. One of my kids learned the backstroke in less than one week! The counselors are caring and kind, and everything seems VERY well organized.” One family noted, “My kids have loved it! I love the energy at carpool. Swimming every day is a big plus. We love the photo updates and that our kids have been grouped with their friends. My camper doesn’t want to go anywhere else!” Another parent said, “My camper didn’t like going to summer camp, but after a week of Headfirst, he’s asking to go back next week! I really appreciate the communication and photos too, so I can stay up to date on his day.”
