About
Champions Champ Camp includes hands-on activities, outdoor water play, bowling, and outside time. The program also offers field trips to places such as zoos and aquariums. Families can join for some of the summer or all summer long.
• Ages: 5–12 years old
• Schedule: Join for some of the summer or all summer long.
Champions states that it is a safe, healthy place for children to thrive, and that the safety, security, and health of each child is a top priority. The program uses a research-backed curriculum and offers full- or part-time camp options with weekly themes such as STEM and play. Most sites offer breakfast, lunch, and snacks, and in sites that provide meal service, the menu satisfies applicable federal and state nutrition guidelines with a variety of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and calcium-rich foods.
Champ Camp Great Outdoors offers one-of-a-kind locations, including university campuses and nature reserves, with an adventure-centric outdoor camp experience and exclusive access to unique resources and outdoor experiences. Outdoor play is supervised and only conducted in safe, secure outdoor play spaces, and staff are regularly trained on safety measures related to field trips or other off-site activities.
The program describes its staff as qualified, caring, and reliable, with teachers and staff trained in child development, early childhood education, or a related field. Staff and teachers undergo extensive training on health and safety practices, including pandemic-response protocols, and are trained in first aid and CPR. Sites are cleaned daily with safe, non-toxic cleaning products, high-touch surfaces are sanitized throughout the day, and staff and students practice frequent hand washing.
Champions reports that most sites have a wellness screening located near the Family Communication Area. The program follows strict procedures for pick-up and drop-off, including sign-in and sign-out and photo identification, and only authorized staff and families may enter sites. All sites include smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, each site has an emergency evacuation plan that is tested frequently, and an emergency plan and list of procedures are posted in each classroom. A National Support Center crisis team supports each center during and after emergencies, and there are strict policies for administering medication, including requiring a doctor’s note for any medication for children under the age of 2.
Parent feedback includes comments that “this year’s Champ camp was awesome” and that there was “an actual curriculum.” Another parent reports that their child asks on the weekend when she can go back to camp. A parent from San Jose, CA, describes the staff as “incredibly dedicated to making sure the children have the best possible experience.”
