Special Olympics Florida Sports Programs

Special Olympics Florida Sports Programs offers year-round sports training and competition in individual, team, and unified sports. The program also includes health programs and athlete leadership activities for participants.

Special Olympics Florida Sports Programs is led by President and CEO Sherry Wheelock. Its stated mission is to create a world where people with intellectual disabilities are treated with respect and dignity and given the opportunities that all people deserve. The program reports participation of 108,855, including 86,738 athletes and 55,839 volunteers, with 159 competitions. More than 500 athletes and Unified partners competed in 19 sports at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games, and more than 1,000 athletes from across the state went to Orlando in November for a two-day event featuring competitions. Special Olympics Florida works with community partners, including Publix through the annual Torch Icon Campaign and Wawa through its annual campaign at stores statewide.
