Lake County Rowing Association (LCRA) was founded in 2011 as a non-profit with the goal of promoting rowing in Lake County while also encouraging people from across the nation to visit the lakes and waterways. The story of the organization begins in 2010, when a group of local Central Florida rowers living in Clermont met a group of people who wanted to make a difference in the community, and Leadership Lake County Class of 2010 decided to form LCRA as a class project focused on economic development. Founding members are listed as Wendy Burkett, Karen Door, Debbie Keily, Paul McPherson, and Alison Strange.
In 2015, the City of Clermont and Lake County, Florida built the Clermont Boathouse, and in 2018 the Clermont Cardboard Classic was started as a FUNdraiser for the club. New docks were built in 2019, and the organization supports events on the renovated Victory Pointe in downtown Clermont after a $30 million renovation. The organization has hosted several friendly regattas, the annual Leader of the Lake, and has been the temporary home to multiple National Rowing Teams. LCRA works with people of all ages and experience levels and offers opportunities to row while on vacation in the Orlando area.
