About

Lake County Rowing Youth Programs offers rowing activities that include a Youth High School Program, a Middle School Program, and Summer Youth Camps. The broader organization also runs Adult Programs such as Adult Learn to Row, as well as private lessons, rowing camps, clinics, private training, team training, and club membership. The program is part of a club that hosts friendly regattas, the annual Leader of the Lake event, and the Clermont Cardboard Classic, and it can also support visiting teams and rowers, corporate team building, and opportunities to row a boat while on vacation in the Orlando area.

Lake County Rowing Youth Programs is part of the Lake County Rowing Association, which was founded in 2011 as a non-profit with the goal of promoting rowing in Lake County while also encouraging people from across the nation to visit local lakes and waterways. The association’s story began in 2010, when the Leadership Lake County Class of 2010 chose economic development as a focus and decided to form the organization. Since 2011, the association has grown to include events such as several friendly regattas, the annual Leader of the Lake, and the Clermont Cardboard Classic, which began in 2018 as a FUNdraiser for the club.

The leadership team includes founding members Wendy Burkett, Karen Door, Debbie Keily, Paul McPherson, and Alison Strange. The organization notes that it works with people of all ages and experience levels and has been the temporary home to multiple National Rowing Teams. It also supports events connected to the renovation of Victory Pointe in downtown Clermont, which underwent a $30 million renovation, and added new docks in 2019.
