About
YMCA Summer Camp takes place within a larger YMCA setting that includes day camp programs, a family pool and splash pad, indoor and outdoor pools, a gymnasium, playgrounds, and sports courts such as pickleball, racquetball or handball, and tennis. Campers are in an environment that also offers a Kids Zone, youth enrichment and teen programs, group exercise spaces, and strength and cardio equipment as part of the broader facility.

The YMCA Summer Camp is part of the YMCA of Southwest Florida, which has served the community for over 50 years. The organization states that its mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. The YMCA of Southwest Florida describes itself as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit social services organization dedicated to Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility and offers a scholarship program. It states that it is an inclusive nonprofit organization of men, women, and children joined by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living, and fostering a sense of social responsibility, and that it envisions itself as an intergenerational community hub with programs, services, and resources available to all persons, regardless of status or ability to pay.
The YMCA notes that its camps are progressive so campers can continuously explore new adventures and responsibilities as they grow. It recognizes the strength of diversity in school-age programs and states that it makes every reasonable accommodation for all children’s success, and it very openly welcomes third party paraprofessionals and behavioral therapists to accompany children in programs. The YMCA states that it strives to make high-quality programs accessible to all families, regardless of financial situation, and offers scholarship information and applications for eligibility.
Orientations at the YMCA are led by professional wellness staff who are nationally certified fitness and wellness experts. Membership at the YMCA of Southwest Florida includes access to all 10 YMCA locations in the region, Kids Zone programs with two hours of childcare free each day while members work out, and special rates on recreational sports leagues, summer camp, adult fitness programs, and more. Teen leadership opportunities such as Youth in Government and gymnastics are offered within the broader YMCA programming. Bonita Boarding Kennel & Pet Camp offers 10% off any service to YMCA members who show their membership card.
One testimonial from Jim Johnson describes the feeling of moving in the water at the Y as “sometimes it kind of feels like air in the water, there’s no bridge between the two.” Another testimonial from Abbie Charleston states that every time she walks into the Y, she sees a familiar smiling face and that she loves teaching yoga and fitness classes and building relationships with other members. A third testimonial from Beth Wilson states that she is confident her Y workouts and the Y’s support and encouragement will have her in shape to reach her goals and then set her sights even higher.
