About
FANM After School Programs are part of the broader services offered by Family Action Network Movement (FANM). These programs are included among FANM’s wrap-around services, alongside mental health support, crisis and domestic violence intervention, counseling, health care access, job training, financial literacy, and adult education.
FANM After School Programs operate within an organization whose goal is to strengthen families through the empowerment of women. Family Action Network Movement was founded in 1991 by Marleine Bastien. At the time of its founding, FANM stood for “Fanm Ayisyen Nan Miyami, Inc” or “Haitian Women of Miami.” Since then, FANM has expanded its scope and services to include all immigrant groups and low to moderate income families and rebranded in 2018 as Family Action Network Movement. FANM advocates for lower income and marginalized residents and organizes its members around issues including affordable housing, comprehensive immigration reform, and climate gentrification and equity. FANM is dedicated to the social, economic, and political empowerment of low income families and organizes locally, statewide, and nationally. Although FANM serves people of all races, genders, and ethnicities, it remains a primarily female and minority run organization. FANM is a founding member of the Miami Climate Alliance, Catalyst Miami, Florida Immigrant Coalition, Haitian American Grassroots Coalition, Center for Haitian Studies, Sant La Haitian Neighborhood Center, and other groups.
