The coaching staff includes former college players and experienced youth basketball coaches, and the founder and head trainer is Coach Dwayne. In 2015, Coach Dwayne began teaching at Hoop Mountain Kuwait, and in 2021 he founded Hoop Skills Academy in Hallandale Beach. The academy states that it offers community-focused programs that instill values and skills beyond the court and that all bookings and memberships are non-refundable, with possible credit toward a future session in special cases at their discretion.

The stated mission of Hoop Skills Basketball Academy is that greatness is built, not born, and that through intentional, high-level training it molds both mind and muscle, developing athletes who are as strong in integrity as they are in skill. The mission further states that every session is a lesson in discipline and every drill a test of will, and that what begins with basketball becomes a blueprint for life, where grit, growth, and character carry the game far beyond the court.

For the youth summer camp, every camper receives a pre- and post-camp evaluation outlining strengths and areas for growth, and campers are grouped according to both age and skill. Parents are encouraged to pack snacks, lunch, and a reusable water bottle, with water available throughout the day, and a change of clothes is optional. It is recommended that children bring a labeled basketball, with extra basketballs available if needed, and only individuals listed as an authorized person for pick-up may pick up a child, with early departures before 3:00 PM requiring a parent to sign the child out with a designated staff member.
