Miami Childrens Theater was founded in 1996 by Angela Ardolino. The leadership team includes MCT Director Tim Fath and Artistic Director Sabrina Leon. Since 1996 Miami Childrens Theater has been described by the organization as a safe haven for children to grow and learn.

Miami Childrens Theater is one of the nation’s premiere young persons’ theaters and combines classes and summer camps with main stage productions. The organization was the first youth children’s theater in the Southeast awarded the rights to the newly created Les Miserables Student Edition. Miami Childrens Theater was voted Best Overall Theater and Best Childrens Theater in Broadway World’s Regional “Best of the Decade” voting. The program notes that 24 of its alumni (also referenced as 23 in another section) have gone on to roles on Broadway.

MCT Director Tim Fath was honored with a Tony Award Nomination for Excellence in Theater Education. Miami Childrens Theater operates as the resident theater for the state-of-the-art Robert Russell Theater in Kendall, located at Alper JCC. The organization receives support from the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, as well as the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.
