Programs at Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples (CMON) take place in a two-story, 38,000 square foot institution filled with interactive exhibits, classrooms, and more. The museum is Southwest Florida’s first museum devoted to children and families and is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable organization founded in 2002. The mission of CMON states that this safe and wonderful place inspires children and families to have fun while learning together. The museum describes itself as a brain-building powerhouse with interactive exhibits that inspire curiosity through STEM, art, culture, and active play, and notes that experimental play fosters creativity, curiosity, empathy, and self-esteem. It is a fun, hands-on museum created for children from infancy through elementary school and their families, and an adult must accompany children under 18 at all times.
The museum notes that its experiences were developed by experts in child psychology. CMON currently has its second floor closed for Early Learning Center and exhibit renovations. Nursing parents are welcomed and supported wherever they feel comfortable, and there is a dedicated Nursing Room inside the ABC Tot Lot on the first floor. Light snacks and drinks are available for purchase near the Visitor Services Desk on the first floor. Calm down kits are available at the Visitor Services Desk and include items such as weighted blankets, hot/cold neck wraps, noise-canceling headphones, and timers. There is designated stroller parking near the Visitor Services Desk on the first floor, and standard wheelchairs are available at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis from the Visitor Services Desk.
CMON lists community involvement efforts that include the CMON Youth Council, Community Outreach, Access for All, a Library Access Program, Exceptional Wednesdays, and Discovery Night. The organization has received a 4-Star Rating from Charity Navigator and Gold Transparency on Guidestar.
