Sun Country Sports Center opened in July 1987 and later expanded its operations after purchasing Brown’s in 1989, with further growth including added cheer and dance rooms in 2004, a west wing in 2007, and a swimming pool in 2009. The program is locally owned and operated as a family business, with co-founders Phil Bennett, Linda Bennett, Mike Wilkinson, Debra Wilkinson, and Ozzie Mensah, and leadership roles that include an Artistic Director, Judy Benton, and a Marketing and Director of Operations at Sun Country West, Jodi. The mission of Sun Country Sports is for every person to feel better about themselves when they walk out of its doors than when they walk in, and it states a goal of “fitness and fun for everyone.”
Sun Country Sports is involved in the community through its Gym Bus, which has seats removed and is outfitted with rings, mats, bars, a balance beam, a ball pit, and a trampoline, and is taken to schools, daycares, and community events. It has a partnership with World Martial Arts and lists support for non-profits. Sun Country Dance Theatre’s 18th Annual Spring Youth Concert, featuring an original story ballet Hansel & Gretel and works by resident and guest choreographers with special guest artists from The Florida Ballet, is scheduled for Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Parent reviews describe birthday parties at Sun Country Sports as having helpful staff who assist with planning, setup, running activities, serving food and cake, and cleanup, and note that the facility has many activities for children’s parties. Other reviews mention children enjoying programs such as the Rainbow gymnastics program and rock climbing events led by staff who provide instruction, monitor safety, and support groups of kids and parents.
