About
Adventures in History Summer Camp takes place at the Orange County Regional History Center, which offers four floors of exhibits exploring 14,000 years of Central Florida’s heritage. The History Center includes a museum in a historic courthouse, the collection of the Historical Society of Central Florida, the Joseph L. Brechner Research Library, the Emporium Gift Shop, and Heritage Square park. The History Center also offers school field trips, school break camps, home school days, visiting exhibitions, and a range of programs for families, children, and adults that connect with the same resources used by the camp.

The Orange County Regional History Center is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, is a member of the American Alliance of Museums, and is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. It offers the Joseph L. Brechner Research Center, which holds more than 17,000 images depicting Central Florida. The History Center opened in 2000, continues a mission that began in 1942, and is supported by a nonprofit organization first organized in 1971. Its stated mission is to serve as the gateway for community engagement, education, and inspiration by preserving and sharing Central Florida’s continually unfolding story. The Executive Director is Azela Santana. The History Center describes itself as working to build an even better experience while recovering from the pandemic’s effects, building strong relationships across the community and engaging in meaningful conversations.
One parent, Ximena Cordova Palma, thanked the staff for her daughter’s experience at camp and described every staff member as kind, talented, prepared, and nurturing of her daughter’s love of invention and creation. Teacher Judy Lindquist from Andover Elementary School reported that her classes had a “spectacular time” at the History Center and that students and teachers talked about the visit all afternoon. Visitor Halee Pearl described the exhibits as interesting and well put together, with particular enjoyment of information about Florida’s citrus industry and tourism, and noted that staff was helpful and that her group enjoyed the optional audio tour. Another parent, Joanna Bond, called it a “great local museum” and shared that her daughter enjoyed visits at ages 3 and 5 and asked to return.
